Championship leader Valentin Moineault was fastest in French F4 qualifying at Magny-Cours and will start races one and three of the round from pole position.
The session’s top three was completed by the leading trio of the championship as the French sophomore driver was followed by Sacha Fenestraz and Gabriel Aubry.
Canadian Kami Laliberte was narrowly edged out by Aubry and had to do with fourth, while the top five was completed by Julien Darras.
Reuben Kressner was sixth ahead of the best of three newcomers, Jean-Baptiste Mela.
Mela, who contested several national karting championships in the past, is making his single-seater debut this weekend and qualified in an impressive seventh.
The top ten was completed by Simo Laaksonen, Julien Andlauer and Louis Gachot.
The weekend opener’s starting order, determined by the second best times of the qualifying, sees an unchanged top six in Moineault, Fenestraz, Aubry, Laliberte, Darras and Kressner.
Laaksonen will start seventh, followed by Gachot, Andlauer and Ye Yifei.
The two additions to the field alongsie Mela – Alex Sedgwick and Antoine Robert – were 15th and 17th overall respectively.
Sedgwick, 16, graduates from the Ginetta Junior championship where he finished the season in 10th last year and plans to contest the rest of the season after concentrating on his studies in the first half of 2015.
