RC Formula name Mavlanov and Panis as full-time Eurocup drivers for 2013

by Valentin Khorounzhiy

Roman Mavlanov and Aurelien Panis will race for RC Formula in the 2013 season of Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, the Luxembourgian team has announced.

For Mavlanov, aged 18, this will be a third consecutive year in the series, after the two previous ones have not yielded him any points finishes. Mavlanov also contested Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS in 2011 and 2012, finishing 13th and 15th in the standings respectively.

Panis, the son of former Formula One driver Olivier, will be contesting his first full season of the Eurocup. Unlike Mavlanov, who is new to the team, Panis has previous experience with RC Formula, having made his Eurocup debut with the team in the last three rounds of 2012 while simultaneously contesting a full-time FR2.0 ALPS campaign that saw him finish in 17th.

The pair will also contest the 2013 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC season, which is a change from the usual practice of RC Formula drivers doing the ALPS series.

RC Formula finished sixth in the 2012 Eurocup Teams’ Championship, with their highest-placed driver being Norman Nato, who finished fourth overall. The team also placed third in this year’s FR2.0 ALPS season, with Nato narrowly missing out on the driver’s title.
