Suspension failure cost Norris victory in Pau Grand Prix

Front-left suspension failure caused Lando Norris’ exit from the Pau Grand Prix while on course for victory in the third race of the Formula 3 European Championship weekend.

The British rookie had twice pulled away from Maximilian Gunther – either side of a safety car period – before he hit the wall at the Foch chicane with less 10 minutes left on the clock.

The incident was caused by the front-left suspension on the Briton’s Carlin-run Dallara breaking, and allowed Gunther to take the win.

?I?m mega gutted about what happened,” said Norris.

“I made a great start from pole, covered off Maxi and pulled out a comfortable lead before the safety car ? the car was awesome.

“I was literally cruising, under no pressure, when I felt something break on the front left moments before hitting the guard rails.

“The fact that I?m tied on points for the championship lead is honestly no consolation at the moment.”

Norris is level in the standings with Joel Eriksson, who lost points himself with a front-left suspension failure at Foch in race two while running fourth.

Gunther’s two wins on Sunday leave him just two points behind Eriksson and Norris.
